Dog Lovers Required For Dog Home Boarding

Scamps And Champs are looking for host families to look after dogs in their own homes whilst their owners are on holiday. We offer a real alternative to traditional kennels and we are looking for new hosts to add to our team. You must have a secure garden and be at home for most of the day. This is an ideal opportunity to be home based and work with animals.

This is a self-employed home-based position, is very flexible and fits around your lifestyle. You will only be looking after dogs from the same household.

Earn between £70 and £150 per week doing something you love.

Extra work may also be available dog walking and cat/small pet home visiting.

Is your dog micro-chipped? If not and the unthinkable happened would your dog be able to be reunited with you? Manchester & Cheshire Dogs' Home is offering low cost micro-chipping to the general public at just £5 per dog.

A microchip means that we or another authorised body can contact the registered owners of a lost

dog within minutes of it arriving in our care.

If you would like to have your dog micro-chipped at the reduced rate of £5.00 then please visit the Home during our opening times of 1pm - 5pm Monday - Saturday or 1pm - 4pm on Sundays. No appointment necessary.

Once your pet has been micro-chipped, please make sure that you keep your contact details up to date on the UK PETtrac Database. It is vital that your information is correct so that you can be contacted 24hrs a day should your pet be found.

Our latest customer review on the Free Index business website - After moving to a new area I had to find a new cat sitter for my cat Izzy. Scamps and Champs seemed reasonable prices and had good reviews. The initial meeting was great, Lesley came and met Izzy and asked me about any special care for her. I booked her over the Christmas break at very reasonable rates. When I returned from my break Lesley had written down a day-by-day account of the care she had given and if there were any problems. All in all a very good service. Thank you.

Pet safety on Bonfire Night - Hints and tips on how to keep your pets happy. Loud bangs from fireworks can distress dogs and other animals, so follow these few simple steps to keep your pets happy over bonfire season.

Dogs

Exercise your dog during the day.
Never walk your dog while fireworks are being let off.
Keep your dog indoors, close the curtains and play music to drown out the noise.
Let your dog hide if it wants to take refuge under furniture or in a corner.
Make sure your dog is wearing a collar and tag and is microchipped in case it bolts and becomes lost.
Turning up the volume on your stereo or television may disturb your neighbour. Let your neighbours know what you are planning to do and have happy neighbours as well as pets.

Cats

Make sure your cat is indoors before it goes dark.
Close all windows and curtains and switch on music or the television to reduce firework noise.
Leave your cat to take refuge in a corner if it wishes. Do not try to tempt it out as this could cause more stress.
Make sure your cat is microchipped to ensure it can be returned to you if it escapes and becomes lost.

Small animals Pets living outside such as rabbits and guinea pigs shouldn't be forgotten. Bring your small animals indoors or place them in an outhouse or garden shed to give them extra protection

Cleaning Your Dogs Teeth

Your dogs hygiene is as important as your own and a dog's teeth should not be overlooked.

Your dogs teeth and gums still get a build up of plaque and bacteria even when their diet is healthy. Every time a dog eats, food will collect along the teeth and food particles build up. Saliva is a dogs natural way to keep a dogs mouth clean but often it is not enough.

Some dogs are more prone to oral problems because of poor teeth alignment, recesses in the mouth (where food gathers), broken teeth or simply hereditary factors.

Some common dogs oral health problems:

Gingivitis
Tooth root infection
Loose teeth
Abscesses
Infections of the bloodstream causing heart, kidney and liver disease

It's worth remember that around 7 out of 10 dogs over the age of 3 have some kind of dental disease. You can help prevent this for your dog by following these tips:

Give your dog less soft foods and more dry biscuits, chews and bones which rub the teeth clean and help promote saliva flow
Clean your dogs teeth regularly (twice a day to twice a week) - remember to introduce this when the dog is still young as older dogs will be less tolerant!
Teeth descaling needs to be done at the vets and under general aesthetic but it's a good idea to take your dog every 6 to 12 months for this treatment

How to Clean your Dog's Teeth

Choose a soft toothbrush. You can get doggy toothbrushes such as an 'over the finger rubber mini brush' but a soft child's brush will do.
Don't use human's toothpaste. A special toothpaste or enzyme gel for dissolving plaque for dogs is a must.
Gradually introduce your dog to the concept of having a toothbrush and toothpaste in his mouth. Start with putting some paste on your finger and wiping it on his teeth.
A rubber mini brush is best to begin with
Brush with a circular motion and most importantly BE GENTLE!
